SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE - 10.30 am
Our morning services typically last about one hour and consist
of hymns and choruses, a short childrens address, a sermon and prayers. Following the childrens address (leaving after the offering) those under 6
and over 3 years of age go to their junior church whilst, for the smaller children, there is a creche available to which the service is relayed so that
it can be heard by parents who wish to stay with them. Visiting children
are most welcome to go into junior church or the creche or they can remain
with you. All our children and youth workers operate under the provision
of our Safe Children's policy, which inludes CRB clearance.
Our Sunday morning service includes communion on the first Sunday
of each month and a parade/family service on the third Sunday of each month. Every service is followed by a time of fellowship over a tea or coffee..
Our Sunday morning services are taped and copies may be purchased.

MINISTERS MUSINGS
In chapters 14-17 of John’s gospel we read the account of Jesus preparing his disciples for when he would be no longer here on earth and in those speeches he tells them that another ‘helper’ would come who reveals the truth about God and who comes from the Father and speaks about Jesus the Son. The Holy Spirit is a vital part of the Trinitarian God and it is the Holy Spirit who helps us to be disciples today; we need the Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us to do what God is calling us to do in our generation.
The Holy Spirit has been there from the beginning with God, right back in creation, but in the Old Testament it would appear He came to people for a particular reason or task; however, when we get to the New Testament and the book of Acts we read that the Holy Spirit it available to all.
As we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit to all believers this Pentecost; let us remember that the fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self control, (Galatians 5:22-23) and Jesus said ‘by the fruits you will know them’ how we need the fruits of the Spirit to live in our generation and to make a difference in God’s world.
The Apostle Paul in Romans 8 encourages us to live by the Spirit of God and not by the law because ‘the law of the Spirit, which brings us life in union with Christ Jesus, has set me free from the law of sin and death. What law could not do, because human nature is weak, God did. (Rom. 8 v2) ……..to be controlled by human nature results in death; to be controlled by the Spirit results in life and peace’(v6)
Let us ask God to continue to fill us by His Spirit and to live life in peace producing the fruits of the Spirit and developing the gifts of the Spirit for the common good.

When we began these services they were meant to be informal and to allow space for prayer and for the movement of God’s Spirit. We have also offered prayer for healing or for a situation during these services and many have found that helpful; we have seen God’s answer to prayer. Others have found the time of quiet a very helpful time.
The evening services are now re-scheduled to the 1st and 3rd Sunday, commencing at 6.30 pm. There will be praise at the beginning of the service as now and will also use a mixture of the vast amount of worship hymns and songs that are available. There are some wonderful traditional hymns that have good theology that we use to praise our God with and there are also some wonderful new songs so we continue to praise our God with all of them. We will also allow for the opportunity opf discusssion, which will be led by various members of the congregation.
My intention after praising God is to offer reflection for our prayers followed by space and time to pray quietly in our own hearts and minds or together as a believing community. Of course if there is anyone who needs private prayer that will always be available confidentially. Do come and share with your fellow believers in these services as we seek God together praising and thanking Him for all he does and seeking Him in prayer for our needs and our concerns as well as waiting on Him for His leading and guiding.
Can I encourage anyone who does not normally come to Bible Study or go to one of the other fellowship groups that meet through the week to come and join us? Our invitation extends to anyone not just members of HURC. The evening takes the following shape. There is a fellowship meal between 6pm and 7pm. Not everyone comes to that but for those who like to share a meal with others, particularly those who normally have to eat alone, and for those who are coming straight from work, these meals are valuable. At 7.00pm we begin with a short time of worship and any relevant notices. After which we either have a DVD presentation and a short talk about the Bible passage we are going to look at, after which we break for coffee before we go into groups. These groups help us to discuss the Bible and to hear others views but they are light hearted and not heavy in any way, everyone’s views are valued and if you are quiet and reserved there is no pressure to say anything if you don’t want to. These groups also form a good source of fellowship and care for each other. It does not matter where you are in your understanding of the Bible, which is the idea of sharing together as we all try to discern what God is saying to us. Why not give it a try, if you need transport that can be arranged and I am
